Popular Name：Hydraulic Tool Trap / Tool Trap
Designed to be installed above Wireline BOP, and below Lubricators. It prevents the loss of Wireline Tool String downhole in the event of the wire being pulled-off the Rope Socket, by retaining the dropping tools on a flapper.
Tool Traps can be opened manually or remotely by hydraulic pressure to allow Tool String to be lowered through Tool Trap from above.
Once Tool String is in position, hydraulic pressure is removed, and Tool Traps spring loaded flapper is designed to automatically return to a closed position. Flapper has a slot that is wider than wireline, but smaller than Tool string, thus allowing the wireline pass through the slot without influence on the wireline moving while in “closed” position.
With flapper in “closed” position, Tool String can be raised through the Tool Trap, when the fishing neck contacts underside of flapper, the flapper is moved up and out of well bore. When the Tool String is pulled fully through the Tool Trap, the flapper will automatically close to cover the well bore and prevent the Tool String being dropped downhole.
