◊ Deep Energy Breakthrough

On July 16, 2025, CNOOC announced a major breakthrough in deep formation exploration in the South China Sea, marking its first success in metamorphic sandstone and basement buried hill zones.
The WZ10-5S-2d well reached a depth of 3362 meters and recorded daily outputs of 400 barrels of crude oil and 16.5 million cubic feet of natural gas, demonstrating the significant resource potential of the region.

◊ Petrochina Ranks 2nd

On July 22, 2025, the Fortune China 500 list was released, with PetroChina ranking second with a revenue of USD 412.6453 billion.
In 2024, PetroChina strengthened oil and gas exploration and development, advanced refining and chemical transformation, enhanced marketing performance, and promoted quality and efficiency initiatives. The company also accelerated its green and low-carbon transition, expanded into emerging industries, and improved ESG performance.
Despite a 2.5% year-on-year drop in oil prices, PetroChina achieved growth in business performance for the third consecutive year, hitting a new all-time high.

◊ Shanxi Energy Surge

On July 19, 2025, Shanxi—one of China’s leading coal-producing province and a major coalbed methane (CBM) base—reported a total CBM output of 7.3 billion cubic meters in the first half of the year.
According to the Shanxi Provincial Bureau of Statistics, this accounts for 81.7% of China’s national CBM production during the same period and marks the highest H1 output in history.

◊ Daqing EOR Innovation

On July 10, 2025, Daqing Oilfield entered the late stage of high water cut development and launched its first field trial of chloride-free, carbonless ternary compound flooding technology, overcoming traditional bottlenecks in enhanced oil recovery. It is expected to increase oil recovery efficiency by over 19%, potentially raising the ultimate recovery factor to 70%. This innovation provides a new green technical solution for mature fields, contributing to both enhanced output and low-carbon development goals.
