China Shale News Review – Jan. 8 , 2025
◊ Breakthrough Progress in Fracturing of Deep Shale Oil in Mabei, Xinjiang Oilfield
As the first national continental shale oil demonstration area in China, the resource reserves of Jimusar shale oil reservoir in the Junggar Basin are estimated to exceed 1 billion tons. Solidly advancing the 1.4 million ton profitable shale oil production project in Jimsar and continuously promoting the shale revolution are of great significance for the high-quality development of Xinjiang oil fields and better safeguarding national energy security.
◊ Innovation in shale oil development in continental faulted lake basins in China
Recently, Shengli Jiyang shale oil exploration and development has reported controlled reserves of 223 million tons, proven reserves of 117 million tons, newly built production capacity exceeding 300000 tons, daily oil production exceeding 1600 tons, and annual output exceeding 500000 tons, completing the target production task of the demonstration zone construction one year ahead of schedule; The investment in single well development has significantly decreased, and the shale oil in Minfeng Depression has achieved the goal of efficient development.
◊ Qinghai Oilfield has discovered a large amount of shale gas and tight sandstone gas reserves
According to relevant information, Jurassic coal type gas is concentrated in the northern margin of the Qaidam Basin, and there are three gas bearing combinations in the vertical dimension: bedrock Jurassic, Paleogene, and Neogene. The proven proportion of its cumulative natural gas geological reserves accounts for only 9% of the total resources. Focusing on the coal type gas field in the northern margin of Chaishan, a good trend has emerged in the exploration process of the combination of the front and bottom of Altun Mountain, successfully establishing a new category for expanding coal type gas reserves and laying a solid reserve foundation for the subsequent profitable development operations of the oilfield.
◊ Yunnan shale gas well successfully completed drilling, breaking multiple records
Recently, the YNH2-1 well, which was drilled by the 70789 drilling team of Southwest Petroleum Engineering Company’s Drilling Branch, reached a depth of 3596 meters and successfully completed the drilling, setting four records including the longest single trip footage and the highest core recovery rate in the reservoir of this block.
◊ The shale gas exploration in Guangxi is expected to exceed 1 trillion cubic meters
In 2024, Guangxi Geological and Mineral Bureau will continue to focus on breakthroughs in shale gas exploration. In response to the energy crisis of “coal shortage, oil shortage, and gas shortage” in Guangxi, efforts will be made from multiple sources. As of now, based on the evaluation and prediction of shale gas resource potential, 4 favorable target areas for shale gas, 2 exploration target areas, and 2 parameter well location demonstration plans have been submitted. The preliminary estimate shows that the geological resources of shale gas in the main favorable target areas exceed 1 trillion cubic meters.
